Enter The Net

I blog rarely and if you go through my earlier posts you will find that I copy -paste most of things which I find interesting. That is more so because I don't find something interesting to write on (poetry and story writing is not my piece of cake). But this campaign of IndiBlogger sponsored by Vodafone - Internet is Fun  has made me write this post. My tryst with Internet dates back to the year 2003 perhaps when I was in class 7th. It was a dial up connection as mobile internet was not popular or feasible back then. The time I spent with my first internet connection was cut short by the mounting telephone bills. The school proved to be a respite for a internet hungry person like me but with a lot of restrictions. From then I had to wait till 3 long years to get an internet connection. This time it was on the mobile. Out of excitement I activated the internet pack on my mobile. And for 1 hour experience of slow and laggy internet experience it earned me loads of scolding from my Dad and emptied my mobile balance to nil. So after a week I got a refill on my mobile balance and made sure I didn't repeat the same mistake. But history repeated I downloaded a wallpaper from the service provider's site ( ahem..ahem..it was decent) and it cost me heavily. Being in class 10th I stayed away from wap for a while.

Come class 11th and Orkut ka chaska strikes you . I had a full time internet connection on my computer as well as on my mobile which meant full on Orkutting after school and tuition time.  Although all my friends were not on the most happening social networking site in India of that time but it was fun with the limited ones. Persistent requests coming in like - " Oye mere me scrap post kar na " " Tere scrap kitne huye , mere to 1000 par "" Yaar, usne mera profile visit kiya hai !! " . Tagging friends on weird pictures was the best fun element. Teddy bear ka e card and twinkling stars in that along with some music. The most irritating part I found in the scrapbook was when a bunch of e card type scraps along with music were posted. Bhai inme se baj kaunsa raha hai koi batao mujhe was my general expression.

Mobile internet is a great tool  especially when you are travelling. Come engineering and my long travel journeys. My home is in Kutch and I study in Bhubaneswar. So whenever I come home during holidays , it a long 2000+ km travel spanning more than 45 hours.  Mobile internet has come handy to me during these journeys. Getting current news or catching up with the live cricket score mobile internet is worth it.

Din Bhar Ye Hi Karte Raho

The rise of Facebook has tremendously increased the number of mobile internet users exponentially. Facebook has made it to the necessity list from the last two years. There are some funny statuses regarding Facebook like : " Warn the police if you don't find me online on Facebook for two days consecutively " .  I remember I used the mobile internet once to cheat during a quiz contest . Sigh ! I didn't even earn a cadbury milk for it.

I remember once how  I was lost in my own city. I went to my relative's place at Baramunda (in Bhubaneswar)  to meet one of my cousin's who had come over from Amsterdam for some time. He had a blackberry and used push mails. When I got down the nearest bus stand to the place I couldn't figure out his home. I couldn't call him due to low balance. Gmail came in handy there and I sent him a mail asking him about his whereabouts . Fortunately he had a local number ( which I was unaware of by then) and he called me back after reading the mail.

So this was my story of how mobile internet can be handy as well as fun  at the same time.  I own a tab now and spend most of time surfing the web through my laptop making full-to use of  the college wifi.  Come this summer and mobile internet ki yaad mujhe fir ayegi.
